For the first few weeks of owning your puppy, before he is able to go out, he will have sufficient exercise playing in the garden. However, you'll probably be very relieved when he is old enough to go for a walk outside the confines of his garden. Sensible exercise for puppies means builkding them up gradually and a useful rule of thumb as to the amount of exercise to give a puppy is 5 minutes a month. That is, for every month of your puppy's age, allow him 5 minutes exercise - so that at 12 weeks he should be having around 15 minutes exercise a day - which would be split into 2 walks.

Three short walks a day a better than one long one and, contrary to common belief, road walking your dog on a lead is very good for building up[ his muscle, keeping his feet and nails in good condition and building up stamina.  Of course, there's nothing that a Buhund likes more than a long unrestricted run off the lead, but make sure he has a reliable recall and is only let off the lead where there is no danger of him getting in with traffic or livestock.

While your puppy is still young, never allow him to play with much bigger older dogs. Buhunds don't know what tired is and a bigger dog, accidently running into a smaller one can do a lot of damage to young joints and bones.

Your Buhund will take as much exercise as you can give. If you plan on regular walks at the same time every day - make sure you stick to them because your Buhund can become a champion nagger if he thinks you've forgotten his walk.
